New Life Fellowship started with humble beginnings as “Hilltop Full Gospel Church” in February, 1957 under the leadership of Pastor Leona Mitchell whose husband, Rev. Forest Mitchell, was tragically killed in an automobile accident. The Bloomington Pantagraph reported, “Today, though the energetic efforts of a small group of people, the ‘Little Brick Schoolhouse’ on West Washington is starting NEW LIFE,” printed February 16, 1958. The title of that newspaper article was, “STARTS NEW LIFE.” How ironic…or perhaps, divine that, 40 years later God, in His providence, would lead us as a congregation to call ourselves “New Life Fellowship?!” “God is always at work – inviting ordinary people like us to join Him in that work. As a church our greatest desire is to help people discover a real, life-changing relationship with the God of the Bible, find where He is working, and ultimately join Him in that work…all the while becoming more passionate about our walk with Him.”Pastor Ken Martin
“Loving people into God’s kingdom, preparing them for service, and sending them out to transform lives.”
WHAT DO WE LOOK LIKE?
New Life is a family, first and foremost – a family made up of blacks, whites, Asians, Hispanics, and more. We are an Assemblies of God church located in Bloomington, Illinois. The church began with a small handful of members meeting in an old schoolhouse on Bloomington’s south side. Today we are a growing congregation dedicated to both building and becoming more passionate followers of Jesus. We are committed to taking the good news of Jesus’ salvation to the workplace and the marketplace. On Sunday there is an exciting, anticipatory sense of God’s genuine presence in our worship service. We offer multiple opportunities for people of all ages to experience God in a real, dynamic way through small groups, an active teen ministry, classes and special events for kids, men’s and women’s ministries and more!
